Motown Themed First Dances

Wednesday, March 13th, 2013

We are often asked about suggestions for 1st Dance ideas and today are concentrating on Motown themed first dances for a Motown Supreme client. Here’s a few we have come up with….

I’ll Be There – Jackson 5

My Girl – The Temptations

Ain’t Nothing Like The Real Thing – Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell

For Once In My Life – Stevie Wonder

Let’s Get It On – Marvin Gaye

Let’s Stay Together – Al Green

Tired Of Being Alone – Al Green
We performed this once for a wedding and lyrically it’s a strange choice however first dances are not always about what the lyrics say, more often than not it’s about the connection the couple has with the song.

Reach Out I’ll Be There – Four Tops

It Takes Two – Marvin Gaye and Kim Weston

Funky Profiles – Motown Supreme

Wednesday, February 13th, 2013

Band Name: Motown Supreme

Describe what you do in less than 10 words: Motown Tribute act, performing at parties & events worldwide : )

Top Tunes you like to play: ‘Hit The Road Jack’ and ‘Can I Get A Witness’ are very much favourites however the Jackson 5 numbers always go down really well. We have recently added a few modern, Motown-esque songs into the set which also work really well along with the oldies. Things like Rolling In The Deep, Rehab…they always get people singing along!

Favourite Gig Ever: There are so many amazing events we play at, it’s extremely hard to choose. There are quite a few bookings where we have been booked back the following year, Trentham Gardens for example. That’s always a fantastic event! It is set in an open air theatre amongst the Trentham Gardens and the crowd are always up for a boogie! We always really enjoy that one, and it is really nice going back to an event year after year.

Best piece of advice you can think of to someone planning an event and booking a band: I think ‘know what you are booking’ is pretty important. It sounds obvious but some people for example book a ‘funk’ band and not realise how obscure funk can be! We are a Motown band, so we specialise in Motown music however we do add in a few modern numbers, but we predominantly are a Motown Tribute band.

Tell us one performance you’re looking forward to right now: We are looking forward to the Spring wedding season as we do love performing at weddings! There is so much love in the room and that really electrifies the audience!

Motown Supreme are available as either the full 7 piece live band line up or the trio of female singers performing with backing tracks. The trio works well for smaller events with space or budget restrictions.

1. ‘What Christmas Means To Me’ Stevie Wonder – we love a bit of Stevie!

3. ‘Silent Night’ Temptations – a classic Xmas song, beautifully put together by Temptations

4. ‘Christmas Everyday’ Smokey Robinson - often forgotten, but a great tune!

5. ‘Santa Claus Is Coming to Town’ Supremes – a great version of this song by Supremes.

Motown Supreme hit the Theatres!

Saturday, September 29th, 2012

What a busy Summer we have had! As usual we have performed at some fabulous Weddings and Corporate Events, however this Summer we have branched out to Theatres!

Clients often report on how we put on such a great ‘show’ with our tribute to Motown, we thought it was only natural to progress into the theatrical side of things.

Motown Supreme returned to Trentham Gardens Open Air Theatre this year, after a rebooking from last year. It’s always a great vibe at Trentham and we had lots of audience members singing and dancing along which was fantastic.

Motown Supreme performed at Strode Park for the first time this year. The crowd were electric and we actually ended up joining them on the dancefloor for a boogie at one point.

Performing at Glyndebourne Opera House was definitely a highlight as it is such a beautiful place.

We are super excited to be booking in further theatre dates for 2013 so watch this space for tickets.

Meet…the Motown Supreme girls…

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

I thought it might be nice to do a little interview with our girls from Motown Supreme… we’ve had all sorts of enquiries for them recently, from corporate events, to Summer festivals, weddings and birthday parties, even theatres are booking them up for Motown-themed evenings. The band has been going from strength to stregnth, so I thought its about time we introduce you to the girls properly….

So….introducing, Steph, Becca and Eirini….

What’s your favourite thing about performing with Motown Supreme?
Becca: Motown Supreme is like no other function band that I have worked with…. Not only is it great fun performing with such experienced players and singers, it’s also amazing how authentic the band are to Motown.

Eirini: That I get to sing with two amazing singers! What I love the most is the work we do with the girls. I have always loved singing in harmony and I love the challenge of having to figure out the harmonies, memorise them, blend our voices and give a great performance at the same time!

Steph: I’m the same as Becca & Eirini really – its all about performing with such fantastic musicians and singers. We always have a great time! But also, I just love singing motown – for me, there’s nothing better! Its great to see such timeless songs always going down so well at every event we play at.

How long have you been singing/performing for personally?
Eirini: I have been singing since I can remember, always sang at home with my mum and sisters, then learnt to play a couple of instruments and started performing professionally at the age of 11.

Steph: I’m not sure I ever stop singing…haha…I’m a nightmare to live with ;)   I’ve been doing it professionally for around 10 years now, and I love it!

Becca: I have been singing professionally for 9 years, spreading myself out in all areas of the industry – Session singing, vocal coaching, songwriting and performing.

What/who were you inspired by as when you first started performing?
Steph: Definitely artistes like Aretha, Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner…

Eirini: The artist that first inspired me to sing in English was Avril Lavigne. Later, I was influenced by soul singers, mainly by Aretha Franklin.

Becca: When I first started singing my inspirations were drawn from all the great female vocalists that were around; Whitney Housten, Annie Lennox, Kate Bush and many many more. Motown was never part of my music vocabulary until I discovered it in my teens,
which is when I fell in love with it.

What sort of events does Motown Supreme work at?
Becca: The great thing about Motown Supreme is that we suit any event/party you can think of. We have performed at festivals, weddings, anniversaries, birthday parties, corporate events and many more events where they have wanted a party atmosphere.

Eirini: We do all kinds of events, everywhere in England and abroad!

Tell us your favourite gig moment ever :
Eirini: It was when we played in Trentham Gardens, it was the most beautiful surroundings I had ever played at, next to the most gorgeous lake on a summer’s night. We had the loveliest crowd and the night was great success and now we were called back to play again in the summer!

Becca: Yep, Trentham Gardens was just amazing!

Steph: Agreed! We can’t wait to do that one again this year!

Favourite ever Motown tune?:
Eirini: What’s going on – Marvin Gaye

Becca: My favourite Motown song would have to be Jimmy Mack by Martha Reeves and the Vandellas

Steph: Hard to choose….I love singing ‘Can I Get A Witness’…

So whats next for Motown Supreme?

Becca: This years diary is starting to look very busy for Motown Supreme which is amazing. There seems to be lots of work coming our way in the shape of more festivals, weddings, corporate events and even some theatre booking are in the pipe line

Eirini: We are really excited about getting into the theatre side – its a whole new ballgame for us!

Steph: We’ve also been put forward for some international gigs so hoping to do some travelling this year, which is always good fun!

New Motown Supreme Trio Line-up

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

You may remember we launched our fabulous Motown tribute, Motown Supreme, about a year ago. They have had a fantastic year, performing all over the country at festivals, corporate events, weddings and private parties, and I must say the feedback has been absolutely brilliant. We also had some fantastic comments about their performance last week at our showcase.

Due to popular demand, we have launched today a 3 piece vocal-trio line-up of the band, which clients can book as an option for smaller events or budgets. We’re hoping that this will broaded the type of events that the band can be booked for – lets spread the Motown love! :)

Give us a call (01483511500) or email if you’d like more information!

A few photos from the Langham Showcase…

Thursday, August 11th, 2011

Oooh I love it when we get photos back! Here’s a selection of a few photos from last weeks showcase, courtesy of the awesomely talented Matt Pereira.

First up, a few ‘backstage’ shots… here’s the MIB boys doing a bit of last minute rehearsal…

Here’s the lovely Lindsay in preparations for the launch of her ‘Diva Sax’ act… (website coming soon by the way – its been in huge demand!)

Doing photos at the Langham was just a joy…everywhere you turn is another epic ‘picture moment’… check this out for a beautiful shot…

The beautiful Marianne performing her solo set…

Some shots of MIB as the 8 piece…

The awesome Francis entertained everyone while we changed bands over, with his beautiful cocktail piano, and later as a duo with the supremely talented Debbie…

Funkadelics then took to the stage…

Followed by our acoustic duo…

21st Century Riot…

We were very proud to then launch the first EVER performance of ‘Diva Sax’, which went down a storm! Please watch this space for the new website and video…

I love how every time our jazz trio plays, they have ‘naughty’ looks on their faces, like they’re doing something they shouldn’t…

And Motown Supreme were fabulous as always…

And then the 12 piece MIB took the stage, performing their Jewish medley and a 45mins set…

MIB Music Musicians performing for big name artistes…

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

Our musicians have been up to all sorts lately! As well as rocking out at functions all over the country, they have been travelling the world performing as session musicians for some big name artistes…

I love the fact that our players have such fantastic careers elsewhere – its what makes our bands so great!

You’ve already seen our Lindsay & Russ with David Hasslehoff (or if you haven’t, scroll down to recent posts to see the video!), but check out a few of our other guys…

Tommy is still touring lots with Professor Green. Check him out here singing lead at the Radio 1 Big Weekend….

Our awesome MIB saxophonist Marco has been touring the UK with cheeky chappy Olly Murs…

MIB Guitarist Luke Higgins has been performing with Claire Maguire, who had hit single ‘Last Dance’ earlier this year. Check out this lovely acoustic performance featuring just the two of them…

Motown Supreme guitarist Sandy Buglass has been working with up and coming artiste ‘Florrie’, and has just been joined by Funkadelics drummer Chris Boot! Watch out for these guys, touring a lot this Summer.

Vinnie Lammi (percussionist for Live Loungers and drummer for MIB & Funkadelics) is off to Germany to perform with the lovely Mel B of the Spice Girls, and a selection of the MIB musicians are the in-house band for this weeks ‘London Rocks’ concert, performing with all the artistes including the awesome Kezi Silverstone and Steve Rodgers.

If you’re interested in booking our musicians as a session band for an originals artiste, check out our sister site, www.the77collective.com :)

Good times ahead we think!
